Emily Barer Obituary- Death:  The Charleston area is deeply saddened by the passing of Emily Ruth Barber, a cherished community member who peacefully died at her residence at 5:25 a.m. on March 9, 2026, at just 29 years old. Her loss has resonated throughout the community, where she was known for her warm personality, compassionate nature, and dedicated service to others.

Emily was born on October 2, 1996, in Mattoon, Illinois, to her loving parents Ron and Annie (Heise) Barber. She grew up in the Charleston area and devoted much of her young life to helping others. Emily worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Palm Gardens Nursing Home in Mattoon and served in various caregiving roles at nursing facilities across Coles County.

Her gentle spirit and heartfelt care made her unforgettable to residents and coworkers alike. Many residents would request Emily by name, not just for her professional skills but for her ability to bring comfort, dignity, and joy to those in her care — traits that set her apart as a CNA and as a person.

Emily’s family was central to her life. She is survived by her parents Ron and Annie Barber; her brothers Jeff (Jessica King) Barber and Jon (Stephanie) Barber; and her sister Ellyn Barber (Steve Bower). She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews — Ian, Colin, Haven, Kaya, Leona, Natalie, Avery, and Zach — all of whom she adored.

Her rescue dog, Bella, was more than a pet — she was Emily’s faithful companion and emotional support, sharing in her joys and comforting her through life’s challenges. Bella now remains a cherished part of the Barber family’s life, offering ongoing comfort.
