275 Accident Today – Fatal I-275 Crash Near Livonia Forces Early Morning Road Closure

275 Accident Today Livonia, Michigan — A fatal crash early Thursday morning forced the closure of southbound Interstate 275 near Livonia, creating major delays for commuters across the western Detroit suburbs.

According to police and traffic officials, the collision occurred shortly before 4 a.m. near Eight Mile Road, when a car reportedly lost control on the wet roadway and spun out, before being struck by a passing semi-truck.

Authorities say the vehicle involved, a Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 21-year-old man from Plymouth, became lodged beneath the front of the semi after the impact. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not injured.

The crash triggered a full shutdown of the southbound lanes of I-275 between Seven Mile Road and Eight Mile Road, as police, firefighters, and highway crews worked to investigate the scene and clear the wreckage. Dozens of emergency vehicles were deployed, and traffic backed up for miles during the early morning commute.

By mid-morning, authorities began reopening some lanes, though traffic continued to move slowly as cleanup operations continued. Officials advised drivers to detour and reenter the highway at Seven Mile Road while crews completed their work.

Investigators believe speed combined with rainy road conditions may have contributed to the crash, though the incident remains under active investigation by the Livonia Police Department.

Motorists traveling through the area were urged to drive cautiously and allow additional time for travel while the investigation and roadway cleanup continue.
