Eugene Talmadge Lewis Obituary –Death: The community of Lincolnton is mourning the loss of Eugene Talmadge Lewis, a respected musician, businessman, and family man who passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 91. His passing marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to faith, family, music, and community.

Born on December 31, 1934, in Lincolnton, Lewis was the son of the late Pauline and Roy “Pop” Lewis. He grew up in a close-knit family as the sixth of eight children in a household deeply rooted in tradition, community values, and gospel music.

Eugene Lewis was widely known for his musical talents. He was a gifted fiddle player who performed with his family’s gospel bluegrass band, famously known as The Lewis Family. The group became well known across the region for their inspiring performances that blended faith and music.

Music played a central role in Lewis’s life, bringing joy not only to his family but also to countless fans who listened to the band’s uplifting gospel sound.

Later in life, Lewis transitioned from music into entrepreneurship. He founded Talmadge Lewis Motors, which eventually expanded into Lewis Bus Line, reflecting his strong work ethic and dedication to building a successful business.

Outside of business, Lewis was known for his compassion and kindness—especially toward animals. Friends and family often recalled how he rescued and cared for stray animals, sometimes bringing unusual creatures such as owls, skunks, and armadillos home to nurse them back to health.

Eugene Talmadge Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Cornelia Lagroon Lewis, and their sons Joey Lewis, Mike Lewis, and Stan Lewis. He also leaves behind grandsons Joshua and Jacob, along with siblings Roy Lewis, Esley Lewis, and Janis Phillips, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings, including Polly Copsey, Miggie Lewis, Wallace Lewis, and Mosley Lewis.

Funeral services honoring his life will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Hephzibah Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m., with burial in the church cemetery.

The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the CSRA Humane Society, reflecting Lewis’s lifelong love for animals.

Eugene Talmadge Lewis will be remembered for his dedication to music, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his generous heart. His legacy continues through the lives he touched, the music he shared, and the family he cherished.
