Vickie Shelton Obituary- Death; Christian County Animal Shelter Employee Passed Away At 66

Vickie Shelton Obituary- Death: Vickie Louise Shelton, age 66, of Elkton, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and service to animals and her community. Mrs. Shelton was a long‑time, respected employee of the Christian County Animal Shelter, where she devoted more than 13 years of her life to helping animals find safe, loving homes and advocating for responsible spay and neuter programs to improve animal welfare throughout the region.

Born on September 7, 1959, in Todd County, Vickie’s deep love for animals was rooted in her childhood, inspired by her father’s passion for hunting dogs and the outdoors. Her commitment to animal care made her work at the shelter more than a job — it was a calling that helped countless pets transition into forever families and brought comfort to community members who shared her compassion.

Beyond her professional contributions, Vickie Shelton was cherished for her devoted family life and strong faith. She found her greatest joy in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren, who remember her as a loving, encouraging, and steadfast presence. Her faith in God and her belief in the importance of service gave her strength and purpose throughout her life.

Vickie is survived by her father, Thomas “Gene” Knight, her children and step‑children, her brothers and sister, many grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, and her beloved dogs, Tormento and Coco. Her coworkers at the Christian County Animal Shelter were more than colleagues — they were family who will continue to honor her memory and the difference she made in their lives and in the lives of so many animals.

A visitation and funeral service were held in March at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton, Kentucky, followed by burial at Cox Cemetery, where friends, neighbors, and loved ones gathered to pay tribute to a life marked by selfless care, community service, and love for animals and family.
